Artist Bio
Yee Jia Ying is currently studying at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts for her diploma in Fine Art, majoring in 4D practice. Her works were exhibited once with her artist group collective, Backspace. She is also involved in a video group collective called "The Other Kind" as their main cinematographer, who creates experimental short films. Her artworks often include photography, sound art, performance art, video art, graphite and charcoal drawings. Her passion towards creating art and her open-mindedness give her the strength and opportunity to learn and create new experiences.
Artist Statement
Yee Jia Ying is a multidisciplinary artist based in Singapore. Her works often explore the themes of vulnerability, mental health, and the beauty of overlooked moments in everyday life. She mainly works with photography but also incorporates drawing, printmaking, video art, and sound art to evoke raw emotions and to connect the audience to the artwork.
Regardless of the topic, her works often tried to tie back to her mental state, making image-making a personal affair.
Ultimately, her main goal in creating her works is to invite viewers to engage with their own emotions. Through the different mediums used in the works, her aim is to create spaces where the hidden aspects of our inner worlds can come to light.
