FRAGMENTS OF SHADOWS

Dimensions: 30cm by 20cm each
Year: 2024

This three-part series pays attention to the different lighting, shadows, lines, tones, and colours, using the different compositions to evoke the theme of overlooked beauty in mundane moments.

The first image contrasts with the shadows from the greenery wall, creating tension through the sharp lines and negative space. The wide focal length and the crisp shadows are emphasised to give a sense of tension

The second image, framed by the trees, leads one's eye to a distant structure in the centre bathed in warm, diffused lighting. It challenges viewers to think about the fragments of man-made buildings. The golden tones and shallow depth of field highlight the transition between the whole series.

Lastly, in the third image - Framing with Negative space to create a border to guide the viewer's eyes and using shallow depth of field taken from the reflection of the water creates a shadow of the tree canopy, where symmetry, natural lines and shapes were created.

Overall, this creates a hierarchy of three images that strongly relate back to the beauty of nature's shadows, which is often overlooked.
